Buying ACE exam materials on Ebay

I've decided on the ACE personal trainer cert program to start with. I was looking at getting some of the personal training study materials online, possibly eBay. Obviously I would save money, but could you tell me what the negatives are to doing that? Would I be missing out on anything, let's say company support, if I did not buy my materials directly from the company?

Used ACE exam materials

You can save yourself a lot of money by buying used ACE exam materials. You will still have to register for the exam directly through ACE but you don't have to pay the full retail price for the ACE study materials if you are willing to buy a slightly used book. I bought my materials on ebay for about 75% off the list price compared to if I bought them through ACE. And they were the exact same books and flash cards.

ACE Certified Requires?

To add to the original author's questions..

So basically to become ACE certified you can:

(Assuming you are CPR Certified)
1) Buy the ACE study materials you want (New or Used).
2) Take the exam for about $200.

Essentially, you could be certified for roughly $300?

I'd just like to make sure that thinking is correct, as in the Cert comparison it has the program cost as $299. I want to make sure that's not some hidden fee.

I too looked on ebay and my only concern was that I noticed that the published date of the materials listed on ebay was in 2003. I'd be concerned that the books are out of date. I couldn't find anything on the ACE site to confirm if the materials were out of date or not.
