Cert for functional fitness?

by Steven
(Palo Alto, California)

What cert would be the best foundation for functional fitness training? I am interested in whole body, dynamic training, not muscle isolating machines, powerlifting, weight loss, or special populations.

I would then go on to learn about using medicine balls, plyo boxes, TRX, kettlebells, etc.

Thanks,
Steven

CrossFit?

What you've described there sounds like CrossFit. You might want to look into it - it's a good program!

PTA Global
by: Anonymous

I hold the NSCA CPT, and am currently working on the PTA Global bridging course, mainly for their emphasis on functional movement. They are run by a group of highly accessible people extremely passionate about pushing the envelope of what personal training is, what it should be, and where it's going.

Functional Training Certs are a gimmick. Get one of the main recognized Certs, if you need Certification. Cross Fit is not doing anything that hasn't been done for years and didn't invent any training protocol. Check on all the infighting amoung it's early practitioners and also look at the very high fee. I would read all I could pro and con about Cross Fit before I spent any money.
