Getting certified overseas?

by Hardy O. Johnson
(Camp Zama, Japan)

I am currently serving in the US Army in Japan. Our Chief of Recreation, Mr. Paul Stearns offered to administer a personal training certification class if I paid for the material to get sent out here. Is that possible? If so which programs would be able to mail the material overseas for studying?

NAFTA, AAFA ,ACE,
by: Anonymous

Hi. I think if you want to order any cert material delivered to a Military base from Japan you should have a CA or APO part of address?

Also with most well know PT certs you can take test near you too. Yes if you have Education offices they can do that On-line test also.

Are you close to Yokota AF or Yokosuka navy base you should call the services information to find is any classes for PT coming up soon. I'm a military spouse and now I'm learning a PT cert called NAFTA (most military locations offer it) and have a chance to learn to become a personal trainer.

Little info for you
by: Mary

There are many certification out there that will do this. But the one I would recommend to you is IFPA. www.ifpa-fitness.com. They are NCCA/NOCA accreditted. They have the best customer service. They will ship out all the materials to you. If you have access to DVD player they can send you DVD with Dr. Bell giving a workshop. He is the President of the IFPA. I went to an IFPA conference and had the chance to meet him. His lectures are top notch. Dr. Bell was a fighter pilot so he really goes above and beyond for anyone in the military. I have been a member for many years and been in the fitness industry for a long time and believe the IFPA is the best. I hope this information helps you.

My husband was in the air force also and I proudly support all troops. So stay tough and kick ass out there. Best Wishes.

AFAA in Japan

The MWR at Yokosuka Naval base offers the AFAA course a couple times a year.

Camp Zama is pretty close to Yokosuka.

Getting started as a P.T.

Though I'm based in Ireland, I've found ACSM to be invaluable. Check them out on-line.
Best of luck,
