Hi there, I love your site, it has been a great resource for me as I am trying to start up my own mobile personal training business. My question was how do you get to the top of a google or yahoo search? I know there has to be key words on your pages, but what else does it take? I registered my site with both search engines but am certain it takes more to get listed.

I did all of my website work from scratch. I used a simple GoDaddy.com interface and went from there. Although I eventually plan on upgrading to a more efficient site, this will suffice for now.

From a marketing standpoint, I suggest using Craigslist. Also, on your website, add keywords that those searching for personal training locally will type into Google and the other search engines. For example, my highest ranking keyword in terms of traffic is:

Personal trainer Greenville SC

When people type this in, they see my website http://befitonline.com at the top of the page, currently in the number two spot!

Generally "your city, personal training" is enough. But be sure to type in every aspect of the keyword. For example, don't just add "personal trainer" as your keyword. Also add:

personal trainers
personal training
fitness trainer
fitness trainers
fitness training

And be sure to add to each of the keywords. After a few weeks, check your ranking on google and see where you stand. If you want to, click on competing gyms and personal training companies webpages in your community. Rick click their page and check the page source. At the top you should see a section dedicated to keywords. You can use that as your starting point and see what keywords they used to get themselves to the top.

Of course, there is a lot more to do with it than just keyword rankings. There's also back-linking, blogging (then linking back to your website), etc.

It can takes weeks and months to get ranked so just remain consistent!
