NCSF and special populations

by Laura
(Indiana)

I am really interested in working with special populations and I had always thought NSCA would be my only option if I only wanted a basic CPT cert and not a second or more advanced one, but apparently the NCSF exam does cover this too. I sent an e-mail asking them about this and this was part of the answer I received from their Director of Educational Services. I was thinking about doing the Penn Foster course which includes NSCF materials and exam and this made me feel a lot better about that choice! :-)

"...As far as the population of individuals you will be able to work with once certified as an NCSF-CPT, the possibilities are endless. The NCSF-CPT curriculum ensures that you have the educational background knowledge and skill sets necessary to train every type of individual you would come in contact with in a personal training scenario. Special Populations is one of the 9 content areas on the certification exam. The materials you receive in the NCSF course will cover working with younger adults, middle aged individuals as well as older adults. You will also learn about training considerations for those with diabetes, obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, asthma, etc."
