NFPT Certification Expired

I received my NFPT certification in 2006 while incarcerated. When I was released I had problems finding work in the field because of my record and probation restrictions, so my renewal date has long lapsed. Recently, I have an opportunity to work in a gym and am looking to get my certification again. Is there any way that I can avoid the certification fee and pay renewal fee instead? Please tell me what step I should take. Thank you.
