I am a personal trainer, and have been for twelve years. I have come across many different types of certification, and NPTI seems to be the best. New trainers that come into the industry with this certification have a vast amount of knowledge not only about varying exercises, but also about the anatomy of the human body. I would highly suggest researching the NPTI certification for anyone who is looking to enter the industry.

Another plus of the NPTI program is that after you graduate from the program you are NPTI certified, and you have the know-how to successfully pass most certification exams.

I have just got my certification from NPTI. The material there was more then you could expect from any other certification, the practical was hands on experience, the teachers were great, and the hours were flexible. I would highly reccomend NPTI to anyone if they are looking to be a personal trainer. Instead of training yourself, you have people there to help you and teach you everything you will need to know about anatomy, physiology and nutrition from any kind of aspect whether its for athletes, special populations, etc. I attended NPTI in san francisco, the teachers are great! i have nothing but good things to say about this school.

The depth of the NPTI cert is unparalleled however to say that you can graduate from it and pass most other certs is inaccurate. I would rather hire an NPTI trainer than one from any other org. but the first thing that I would do is ask them to self study and take another cert. my reasoning behind this is that NPTI trainer have a knowledge base that is narrow in scope but very exhaustive in detail. the comment earlier indicates this very well in that it says that they know a lot about variation but not necessarily anything about progression.

In my experience and I do not have NPTI myself, trainers with NPTI followed by NASM are the most successful I have seen. reason being is that NPTI gives them all of the detail and confidence in program design, and NASM gives them the knowledge and real world rationale for why you do what you do with your clientele. It is this reasoning that allows you to better present your services and convert them into big packages and continued business. NPTI misses the boat horribly on the WHY

I attended NPTI in Santa Monica a few years back, with the incomparable Ri Walton as instructor. A blockbuster combination!! What's great about NPTI you ask? Not only classroom learning, but hands-on training in a gym. We practiced training each other. Someone with a mere certificate may or may not know what the lifts are called or which muscle is which, but may NEVER have lifted a weight before in her life before going out on the floor to train someone (I have personally seen this). Ri trained us to Equinox specifications, and some of us who did not land jobs with Equinox may have found ourselves way overqualified...

I highly recommend attending NPTI in Columbus, OH. They bridged the gap between the science and business of personal training. We had many business assignments and they brought in guest speakers to lecture on the business side of training which was extremely helpful. The people I met and contacts that I have made through NPTI OHIO helped me get my job with Lifetime Fitness.
