NSCA-CPT

by Damian Cox
(Marshall, WI)

I have to give kudos to the NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association). They really make sure you know your stuff in the field. They educated me well in program planning, exercise technique, biomechanics, anatomy, special populations, safety and legal issues and so on.

I earned my certification through them, and although I am not yet employed in the field (working on it!), I feel comfortable with the knowledge that they supplied me. Go with NSCA if you can, it's not cheap (study materials and exam) but like all things in life, you get what you pay for!

NSCA Exam
by: L.A.

I was happy to read your post about the NSCA. I've been in freak mode ever since I read on this site that it's the toughest exam out there!
I'm 47 years old and teach group fitness and have been with my own personal trainer for 4 years now. I've learned so much throughout the years, however, I'm the world's worst test taker!!!
I have all the study materials for the NSCA, which I bought at a discounted price at the last IDEA conference. Does the practice exam mirror the real exam? Do you recommend attending the workshop? I'm giving myself 8 months to study and will be in a mentor program with my trainer(w/15 years' experience) this summer.
Just looking for some reassurance...

You can pass the NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer exam
by: Angela Russell

I noticed some of you were worried about passing the NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer exam. I took it and passed the first time(80%). I did get my B.S in health & wellness but the NSCA CPT book helped the most. The sections that I didn't get to read were the sections that I didn't do as well. The questions are a little different than most questions like is the answer (from a,b,c,d) abd, cad,cd or ab this can be tough. The book asks you questions just like the test and this helped me the most. All you have to do is sit down and do one chapter at a time answer all the questions and take the practice tests. Do this for every chapter then go back through and take all the tests at once. You could easily do a chapter a week. Goodluck!
