Questions about having my International (Australian) credentials recognized/tranferred?

by Jeni
(Napa, CA, USA)

Hi,

I am a certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor from Australia. My family & I just made the move to California ( I am a U.S. CItizen) Anyhow, I am really struggling to find out how I can work here with my Australian Credentials. Has anyone gone through this process? I have been in touch with CREPS and ICREPS already.

I would like to start my own business again training clients, doing outdoor small groups, and would also like to teach a couple of group fitness classes at local gyms but nobody is able to give me many answers on how to go forward. I just want to make sure I am properly insured and everything is done right. The independent credential schools here (ACE, etc) only want to sell me their course and I don't want to start over again. I am more than happy to take a course or two but I certainly do not need to start over...

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

All the best,
Jeni

Just get certified
by: Katie

Hi Jeni

There is no legal requirement to get certified in the U.S. However, it will be easier to get insurance. You can get NCCA Accredited certifications for under $100 (ACTION) without having to take a long course. Insurance will run you another $120-$180.
