Recertification Cost for NASM

by ML
(UTAH)

I am currently trying to decide which to take out of ACE and NASM. I have an Exercise Science Bachelors degree and want to do in home training. However, I am hung up on how much it is to recertify with NASM. If you are NASM certified does it really cost you $700? When I called the company they said it cost $250 for a workshop and that would almost get all your CEC'S. Which is right?

Recert real cost
by: Anonymous

Recertification costs $99. It's the 2.0 required CECs that cost real $. You can get them from a "secondary" approved provider for far less than getting them directly from NASM (see NASM's section on "approved providers"). If you do the recert bundles through NASM, it could easily cost you in excess of $300, though $700 sounds ridiculously steep-- they must be factoring in an "elite" additional cert like CES or PES that they also offer (which definitely WILL cost you around $600, plus your $99 bi-annual fee, thus the $700)!

I am presently NASM CPT and ACE GFI certified. I was able to keep my NASM cert current (held that first) by completing the GFI through ACE, but that's not really the "cost effective" way to go, just something I wanted under my belt for the club I work at.

Frustrated with Trying to get NASM CECs
by: Anonymous

I was an ACE trainer for ten years, let it lapse because I am retired and knew I wouldn't be doing much in the field any longer. However, I really missed not having that certification under my belt (vanity, I guess), so I decided to go for the NASM. Passed it easily, and also just added Senior Fitness Specialist to my credentials. However, I cannot find anywhere to further obtain CECs for NASM outside of taking another course, which I don't need and don't want. ACE used to have magazine quizzes which was a big help. Does anyone know if there is anything like there out for NASM? I really do NOT want to take another $200+ course I don't need or want just because I need to get the credits. I really tend to think that all of these certification providers are scam artists, honestly.
