So you want to be a successful trainer?

by Joe Bartovic NASM-CPT,PES

It's great that you like to workout, it's great you want to help people, but that just is not enough if you want to make a successful living as a personal trainer. On average a trainer who is booked full all year long in a gym is going to make $50,000 yr. So now what? You're booked full, where is more going to come from?

Is this the time to look into getting out of the gym and into your own studio? Break out of the comfort zone. We all know that the gym will take a big cut of the money you bring in, so this is 1 way.

Or 2) Go into group training. How about getting 2,3,4x /hr by training more than one person at a time. I know that it takes "personal" out of trainer but you DO NOT have to lower your rate and you will be surprised on how your group works harder as a "team".

3) Offer other services, sell supplements or independent program designs, write a workout handbook or a whole book if you have the time.

The truth is you are going to have to do more.

Successful Trainer
by: Trainer

If you want to be a successful trainer, you should take the huge risk and open up your own studio. In house trainers that work for commercial gyms don't make much, because the gym takes the bigger %. You wont be a successful trainer working for a corporate gym

Very few trainers will open up their own studio, but when you do, it's a huge accomplishment and it will pay off. Sure, you'll be alone for a while until you build up your clients, and when you do, hire another good trainer (hard to find), which will increase your revenue.
