All about sales

24 fitness does not take training seriously. Your FM is only going to end up nagging about selling supplements, selling training, interupting people during their workout to ask them for orientations. They actually teach you ways to manipulate people into buying crap. Salesmen do way better than personal trainers. I have my BA in integrative physiology and my ACSM cert. At 24 hour, the degree is equivalent to a crappy cert most people can study for and get in about 3 weeks. They know they constantly cycle through trainers so they keep hiring crappy trainers. I love the training aspect just because I love the involving the science behind it. I dont mind the long early and late hours because my passion for the job. However 24 hr is complete crap. They dont care about anything but sales the only reason im still here is because of my clients. If I leave they get stuck with a crappy trainer. It seems however that most of the industry is following the same business model because of the profit. You have to be very patient in the industry. 24 hour may have to be a start unless you get lucky and know someone in a studio. Most good places require alot of experience. Research alot before you spend money on cert. 24 hour is very good at killing the passion you may have now. I will quit as soon as im done with a few select clients.

You are so right

I was also a trainer at 24 Hour Fitness a few years ago. I read a business rating about them from a large agency and they were giving recommendations to the CEO and upper management. They told them that 24 Hour Fitness has to stop being a company where people only want to work temporarily. They mentioned almost a 300% turnover rate of employees. I have witnessed trainers, sales staff, managers and front desk clerks have shorter stays as employees than new members who got gift memberships for Christmas. I had one member come up to me when I was a new trainer and he told me that I would not be there in a few months. I proved him wrong by staying for 3 years. But almost every other trainer I worked with was gone after I was there for 2 months. The company is the worst I've ever worked for.
