American Fitness and Nutrition Academy

Personal fitness trainer school, with current locations in Santa Barbara and Pasadena. You can enroll in the six month day class, or six month evening/Saturday courses. They also have a 14 week intensive track if you want to take a more accelerated approach. All in all, it's 500 hours of instruction and hands on vocational training. AFNA combines classroom instruction (not online!) with personal training and group training experience at partner fitness facilities (Spectrum Athletic Clubs in Santa Barbara and Breakthru Fitness in Pasadena). These are cutting edge commercial athletic clubs, and students receive full membership as part of their tuition. AFNA's dynamic and up-to-date curriculum places a strong emphasis on nutrition science, weight management planning, and athletic performance nutrition, something no other fitness trainer school does. They also sponsor their students for ACSM-CPT accreditation, so graduates can build their credentials with both AFNA's state recognized 500 hour advanced personal trainer diploma as well as NCCA certification. Most important, AFNA's job placement and career planning staff are very engaged, coaching students for job interviews, assisting with resumes, helping with business plans, and providing reference.

I went here
by: Steven

This is a great school and a lot of fun. I got NASM certified first and then went here. More athletic emphasis but you learn to train all types like fat loss and muscle gain. Fun too with the organized events between the Santa Barbara and Pasadena schools (I went to Santa Barbara school). They participate every year in the local marathons and other events which is also fun and great way to meet other trainers.
