Are ACE classroom sessions or webinars worth it?

by Casey
(California)

I have a college degree, although not in exercise science. I am a professional baseball player and have helped many friends and family members with a workout program. So, now I am studying for the ACE certification and am wondering if I should also spring for the classroom session at $219 or a webinar for $199 (I bought study materials to study at home). I am in the middle of my season, but want to get certified as soon as possible to earn money on the off season (we don't get paid much!).

By the way, this is a great site. Thanks for creating it and keeping it up.

Don't Go to School for ACE Certification!
by: Anonymous

Just wanted to comment and say that going to a college that offers ACE cert I wouldn't pay for it. The teachers are not Certified in ACE and just read straight out of the book to you which you can do all on your own. My teacher has no real experience in training. I recommend just teaching yourself. Heritage College is a joke!

Mixed feelings
by: Newly Certified

I, too, took the class at a college (I had previously bought the study materials, but had used them VERY little). The "instructor" read from a Powerpoint WORD FOR WORD, which I felt was a huge waste of time. However the college did supply the Powerpoints which helped summarize the often wordy material, and the offered labs that gave us hands-on experience and other study tools. I think the extra stuff was well worth it, but the I skipped most of the classes and read the Powerpoints on my own. I'd suggest you find out what the college class has to offer as a whole before making your decision. Ask them if you can speak with someone who has taken the course before, perhaps.
