Certificate vs. Certification

Certificate versus certification

I graduated this past December with a Career Studies Certificate in Personal Training. I do not have a Certification (i.e. ACE, NASM, etc.)
I also hold a level 1 coach certificate in Crossfit and have been coaching for almost 3 years.

My question is can I function as a Personal Trainer without a certification ?

You can train but there are some things to consider

Hi Kevin

Since you are in the United States, there is no legal limit on providing personal training services. In fact, since you say you have been a Crossfit coach for three years, you have already been providing these services.

The one thing I tell people though is you need to have liability insurance. You absolutely should not train without it. Even if you are living in a van down by the river, you don't want to be sued and not be able to provide a defense.

Most insurance companies will require proof of certification or education. You might satisfy that requirement with your education. Submit your application for insurance and see what they say.
