Health club won't hire with an ISSA certification

The ISSA certification is a good fit for me. But several health clubs in my area will not hire with this certification. Anyone else have this experience?

hard to hire
by: Dee

yes, this is true! It's harder to find work in the gyms with ISSA. They mostly are looking for ACE, and some others. I was hired luckly because I was in really good shape and knew a lot about being in shape. But the gym I worked at wanted me to get certified with ACE. Good thing is ,they were willing to pay. A lot of gyms will pay for your certification if they like you in the interview!! Good Luck!!

Lack of hands on

I have had difficulty getting acceptance as an ISSA cert. I have come to realize that I don't have the hands on that I need.

ISSA
by: Alex

That is true. ISSA is weird when it comes to gyms but why I do not know. Because ISSA is the hardest, most difficult certification you can earn, proven! They don't fool around, and they don't pass out easy As. My test took 8 hours and I HAD to get CPR/AED Certification.
Now I have worked out and done training before that most people could not handle. I have worked out with special forces like DELTA and the Rangers. I KNOW what a workout is. I have also trained 86 cadets at once 5 times a week for 2 years, so I know how to train. I had a 286 lb cadet down to 152 within 8 months. I also have 11 years of martial art experience. But now I'm getting off topic.
Anyway, ISSA is the hardest certification, and even though I have done all this other stuff, gyms still look the other way and hire SOMETIMES unexperienced, trainers with less difficult certification.
I find it extremely annoying.

ISSA not perfect
by: Kimo

ISSA is not without it's issues. First one is they didn't want to go for accreditation. They just formed their own agency. The other is they bash protocols they don't follow, instead of just presenting them for study. As with most Certifications they have an ax to grind, when it comes to differing viewpoints. This is why some gyms don't recognise them. I have found them to be expensive and no better than other Certs. out there.
