Should I buy the NASM workshop?

I see that NASM offers the studying materials, the test and the workshop for $679. Should I bother with the workshop or just use the study materials?

I just attended a workshop and thought it was a very good extension to all that you learn in the book, study guide, and videos. It's 2 days of intense, on the floor, hand on training. Our instructor was excellent!

The workshops are general information and do not help you pass. Study the materials and you will be fine. Save your money.

If you are a good studier, take it serious and truly KNOW the material then the workshop is probably not for you.

I went and got very little from it that I did not get from the materials.

However, I did pick up some very cool verbal ques and technique pointers. AND if you are not far along in your studies or are new to training all together and money is not an issue, you will probably benefit from the workshop

I just got back from the workshop and it is completely worth the extra cost. It gave great hands-on techniques and we really worked on proper technique.

I would recommend taking the workshop closer to your exam date. I read the text and did the study guide then went to the workshop. There were some people in the class who had barely read the first chapter and I don't feel as though they got as much out of the class as I did. I knew the concepts they were talking about so being there was a clarification and reiteration for what I had read. You can either choose to go to the workshop with no idea what to expect or go in having a good amount of knowledge and reviewing what you have already learned.

The fitness professionals teaching the workshop are GREAT. You won't regret spending the extra money.

Is the live workshop for the NASM personal training certification beneficial? I'm thinking of ordering everything but the workshop.

How important do you think the workshop is in passing the exam?

Hi Kim, Over a year ago I basically posted the same question. The responses I received were an overwhelming take the workshop. The reasons basically said how much I would learn from the workshop.
As a Personal Trainer for over 10 years, I have to say, I learned a lot in the workshop when I took it early this year. I studied hard for a few months before taking the workshop. The workshop sort of bought everything together for me. I didn't live far from where the workshop was held so the cost was basically just the 100 dollar difference in the cost of the two packages. For the 100 dollars, I think it was well worth it. The cost of the retest is 200 dollars, the workshop just may make the difference. The test can be passed without the workshop, but again you can learn a lot. Good luck!

thanks, i think i will do the workshop. is it necessary to have studied for a while before going? i just ordered my materials and the one closest to me is in 4 weeks.

Hi, I happen to learn better that way. I try to get a good grasp of the material before class, so I could have a better understanding of what the instructors are talking about. In the two days they cover a lot of material and I studied enough in advance that the workshop bought it all together. Be prepared to workout a lot as well
