Personal Trainer at 24 Hour Fitness

by Anonymous

The environment at 24 hour is really awesome. However, the management doesn't seem to put their trainers at a high level of priority. I was recently hired and was supposed to attend their 24 hour/Apex certification program to give me a little more hourly pay (I am already certified through an accredited organization).

I had to find out the day before I was supposed to attend the class that they had already filled all the seats that were previously available. The job demands its trainers to sell themselves along with various supplements to all of their clients. If you're not a good salesperson, you may find this job challenging as I have.

Unless you are an Registered Dietitian, you will have a challenge defending yourself against the inevitable ensuing lawsuit for prescribing supplements to clients.

do you realize that taking vitamins/supplements along with some prescription meds could be toxic? I take a thyroid med and am not allowed to take anyother kind of medication/supplement/anacid etc for at least 4 hours...

Nutrition
by: NSCA Certified

The legalities depend on the laws of your individual state. In CA, anyone can give nutrition advice as long as it's not intended to treat a condition and the client isn't currently under doctor care. If the person has a medical issue, refer them to a dietician. Beware when recommending any kind of supplement or vitamin to ANY client as both can be dangerous. I refuse to recommend supplements that aren't scientifically proven, and there aren't many of them. Vitamin/mineral supplements require full dietary assessment before recommending.
