Should I get the NASM certification first?

by Peggy Van Kirk
(Spanaway, WA)

Help! I have been told by three gyms (Calloways, 24 Hour Fitness, and Island Athletic Club on Whidbey Island), that the trainers they hire are NASM certified. I have nearly decided on this one, but eventually want an NSCA or ACSM certification also. Is it wise to do the NASM first, and another later? I am 57 years old, and avid long-time exerciser, and want to focus on baby boomers or the disabled. I have 23 years experience in a health care field (dentistry). Please advise.

NSCA and ACSM are better than NASM
by: Steve

There is no way a gym would turn down NSCA and ACSM in favor of NASM. Whoever does the hiring at the gym probably is NASM certified. NASM is not bad, its just way more entry level than ACSM. They are probably worried that you would know more than them.

Should i get the NASM certification first?
by: Brenda Milewski

Hello Peggy Van Kirk, I've read your thoughts and notice that your focus as a trainer are with the baby boomer an/or disabled.

My name is Brenda and I am planning to open a fitness center in Puyallup, WA marketing the same clients. I would love to speak with you and share ideas in how a fitness center like mine can benefit the boomer community and the diable.
I am also planning to work with Good Sam and the local physical therapist for client referrals.

Call me if your interested in speaking with me.

NASM certified

I'm NASM certified and I'm sure that all the issues w/ older people are addressed during the NASM program, it really works and is worth the money in return for your investment once you take that hard ass exam and pass it
