Need help passing the ACSM exam

by John
(New York)

I have a few questions about passing the exam. First I have been reading the ACSM Certification Review book and I have been passing the practice questions at the end of the chapters with a 75% - 77% correct ratio. Would this be good enough to pass the CPT exam? I have already read the ACSM Resources for a personal trainer book. I heard that most of the questions on the exam are about risk asessment, program design, and nutrition. Is this true?

Hope this helps

Hi John,
I approached the test the same way you did, by doing the quizzes at the end of each chapter, then the two last ones at the end of the book. I also purchased the one from this site. The questions from the ACSM quizzes were a bit harder than the one on the actual test, more than anything I would tell you to know how to apply the knowledge from the book into real life experiences.

I wouldn't even think of taking the test until you are at about a 90% on the practice test. If you can afford it, I highly recommend taking the 3 day workshop.

Workshop worthiness
by: Anonymous

I took the workshop, only the one day session. I am currently a personal trainer for the past 5years and am just now going to take the ACSM pt exam. However, I did not feel the workshop was worth the dollars. As an individual already in the field, I felt I already knew most of the basic concepts of the workshop info. I would have just preferred getting the book and leaving. Many of the other participants who had never been a trainer or were not in the field seemed to favor the benefits of the class.
I will be taking my exam next week. I have had my books for a year to be honest. Every once in a while I study but not for more than a week at a time. I know how to do my job...but not all the technical terms... my mini test percentages are usually about 70%- 75%. Again, I have not studied for this exam as if it were an undergrad taking a college exam but, I'mnot too concerned. I will be taking the exam next week and feel I will be fine and pass with flying colors.
Good Luck to you.

You sound like you'll be okay.

Need to get at least 550 of 800 questions correct. That's 68%.
