Why is NPTI Different?

I think this comparison chart is great. Why is the NPTI requirement so much greater than all of the others? 500 hours comes out to several months whereas all the other are only a couple of days. Am interested in hearing the difference.

NPTI is a school
by: Katie - Admin

NPTI is an education provider. Most certifications provide little or no education. They just provide some materials and a test. It is up to you to learn the material. That is why the time difference is so large.

In my experience, I have found that there is a strong link between the amount of education you consume and your success as a personal trainer. The only way you can provide real value to your clients is if you know what you are talking about.

Why is NTPI so unknown?
by: Sandy Hulver

I am strongly considering registering for the NTPI course but am being discouraged by people in the industry because they have never heard of them. It seems like the education I would get there far exceeds on-line/at home study but I'm afraid to make the investment because I wouldn't have the recognized certifications (ACE, AFAA, etc.) I need to decide soon. Please help?!

NPTI
by: MIMI

NPTI is one of the greatest schools that you can attend. You proper form and technique with exercises, you'll understand the origin, insertion and action of muscle groups, proper names for muscles and bones; you'll learnn about speed and agility, muscle endurance, plyometrics and when to incorporate certain exercise activity into a workout routine.

This is the most detailed and well taught course that teaches LITERALLy about the biomechanics of the body. You'll receive hands on personal training experience that you CANNOT receive out of just reading a book.

And the instructor... The instructor that teaches out of Rochester, MI location is the most knowledgeable, intelligent, physically fit and well sought after instructors. I've not met ANYONE as GOOD as this instructor. And her husband is EQUALLY all of the above.

It is worth every penny to invest in your future by attending NPTI.

Current NPTI student
by: Anonymous

I have been a student at NPTI for nearly 3 months now and before this course I knew nothing about the industry other than useing a personal trainer of my own. Now after only 3 months I feel and know I have much more knowlage than any of the trainers I have used in the past. Looking back I am supprised on how little they actually knew. I'm not saying they wern't good but just had little knowlage as to why they were doing something or what the result of something would give you. NPTI is worth every cent spent on it. You get out of it what you put into it. Go into it with an open mind and a willingness to learn. And NO i am not paid by NPTI to say this I pay THEM for teaching me. This ia and awesome progam and will shoot you ahead of most of your competition. Happy training.

NPTI is a degree program, others are well known and educate well
by: Anonymous

NPTI is great if you have time to attend school full time. SOME of the others with high industry recognition provide EXCELLENT teaching like NASM, or NCSA... ACT is also pretty widely accepted, although it is thought of as "easy", so not as highly regarded.

Education+practical experience = Success
by: NFL strength coach

As far as Npti, I hadn't heard of them until recently. After researching them, I'm convinced they are perfect for our industry. There are several certs but when licensure becomes necessary in the near future (you know, the thing medical professionals have to pass to practice), EvErYoNe will need either a degree or vocational school diploma as well as certs. This will keep all the hooligans and online cert fitness trainers from diluting our respected field. I've been training pro athletes for 20 years. I couldn't imagine ever succeeding in the field without constantly immersing myself in continuing education and finding mentors who always knew more than I Did. That's the key to being great rather than just another "certified" trainer. My grandma could get certified if she was smart enough to read and memorize info for a fitness exam.

So bottom line: if spending several thousand $$ on a college degree is not feasible money or timewise, NpTi is the BEST option you can consider. Turns out NpTi is the Least Expensive vocation school you could attend. What more motivation so u need?

planning to attend NPTI in Jan2011
by: Anonymous

wow, thanks so much all of the comments about NPTI here are positive and right in line with what I was thinking too. I went to a meeting here in Houston with an instructor there to evaluate the school and I was SOLD. But was a little discouraged because of the cost, but my thought was for what I would be getting it seemed so worth it. I'm over 45yr so hands on training is a must for me. The knowledge and personal touch/training seems to be the best way to go. I'm sold and ready to start and looking forward to entering the world of PT very ready and informed.

Great School
by: Anonymous

I have two sons who are currently attending NPTI and one of them graduated from 4 yr college with a degree in exercise science/sports mgmt. He said he has learned more from NPTI about training/anatomy than he did in the 4 years at college. I would recommend this over an on-line course for sure.

Best decision
by: Travis

Six years ago I decided to make a major career change. I was 38 years old at the time and passionate about health and wellness so I decided to go to an open house at the National Personal Training Institute in Portland Oregon to see what it was about. Since I played sports all my life and served in the Army I assumed I already knew what I needed to know to be successful but within a few minutes of talking to the director I came to the conclusion that I had no idea. So, I attended the 6 month course and quickly learned that I had all of the tools to succeed. I worked at a box for a year and then opened my own business at a studio. 95% of my clients followed me and I haven't looked back. Now at 44, I am my own boss and I get to help people move, feel, and look better. You won't get a better education in this period!
