NPTI Certification

NPTI is the National Personal Training Institute. The NPTI certification program is very different than the other major certification providers.

NPTI doesn't just offer weekend workshops and proctored exams, instead they provide a comprehensive curriculum to really prepare you for a career as a personal trainer. They are really more of a personal training school than just a certification provider.

Personal Training Diploma

NPTI certification is unique because it doesn't just offer you their own certification. You actually earn a state-approved diploma upon completion of the program (called a certificate of completion in Arizona). In order to provide this kind of credential, NPTI has to be a much more thorough program compared to the other certification providers.

Some of the major areas that are covered include: 145 hours of Personal Training program design, 100 hours of Anatomy & Physiology, and 100 hours of Nutrition.

These three areas are so important because most personal trainers don't feel comfortable in them, especially anatomy and nutrition. But knowledge in these areas is essential to becoming a top performing personal trainer.

Graduate Ready

The program emphasizes practical, hands on instruction including:

* 6 months of hands-on experience in a fitness facility with a personal trainer
* Over 50 sessions of simulated, real-time experience as a personal trainer
* Full coverage of all exercises and machines including balls, bands, and weights
* 6 months of challenging workouts
* Journal record keeping for both workouts and nutrition

If you have read some of my reviews of other certification programs, you will know that many of them offer very little in practical knowledge. It is so common for newly certified trainers to not even know how to use the various machines, that is why I created Step 3 on this web site to help fill in the gaps.

A personal trainer with NPTI certification will avoid this helpless stage that other trainers go through.

Training Schedules

Taking a 500 hour course is a much larger commitment than taking a weekend workshop. You will have to find time in your schedule around work, school and family. NPTI offers a few options to deal with these constraints. The 500 program can be completed in the following ways:

* 6 months: Mon - Thurs, 9:00-2:30 or 5:30-10:30

* 6 months: Monday & Wednesday, 5:30-10:30 and Saturday classes 10:00 am-6:00 pm + one Sunday per month 10:00am-2:00pm

* 1 year: Saturdays 10:00-6:00 plus one Sunday per month 10:00-3:00

* 1 year: Monday & Wednesday, 5:30 – 10:30

* 4 months: Full time (offered in Orlando FL & Lyndhurst, NJ)
